I started in wealth management in 2009. The fallout from the biggest financial and economic crisis since the Great Depression made this a uniquely interesting time to build experience.

Those early days were filled with tough conversations between advisor and client. People were worried about their goals, their progress being diminished, and the challenging state of the world at the time. Times were scary, but we made it through.

The value of those conversations was evident at the time. When things are tough, people need each other. Not even the best strategy can survive without having the right partner to help investors stay committed.

I was lucky enough to understand early on that this is what a financial advisor should do: be a partner in good times and bad.

Over the following years I wore many hats. I served on multiple investment committees, crafted hundreds of client portfolios, completed thousands of financial plans, acted as head of trading, and worked with people through births & deaths, enrollments & graduations, new opportunities & retirements, and everything in between.

    I love this work.

To be more clear, "this work” refers to talking with people about their lives, their money, and their time. Then helping fit all of the pieces together.

Everyone is unique and every plan is different. Being a part of it is amazing.

My career started in the mountains, rivers, and trails of the American west. My first office job had bicycle grease on every single touch point. That office smelled like rope, paper maps, and wet outdoor gear. For seven years I worked at Texas Tech University leading their Outdoor Recreation program. We canoed, backpacked, biked, and climbed, all over the American west and abroad.

Because I worked at the university full time, Texas Tech offered one free graduate course a semester… And I know a deal when I see one.

In 2017, I enrolled in a Masters program for Personal Financial Planning. I was still working full time so that meant I spent a lot of late nights studying. I knew I was on to my future career when those late nights never felt hard. I was devouring what I was learning and getting ready for a career shift.

I started in Wealth Management in September 2020. Everything felt uncertain. Parts of the global economy had stopped or slowed, but the market was tearing to new highs from unprecedented stimulus. I remember the fear, and I remember the FOMO.

I remember 2022. When the tide turned. Equity, real estate, and bond markets fell together - the bond market in historic fashion.

Entering the profession during a difficult time is something I’m grateful for. I had the opportunity to learn from hundreds of client conversations. These conversations centered around a question that was not always stated, but was always present, "Are we going to be OK?”

Navigating this question is why I do this work. Guiding others to find what is possible with their money and their lives.

My better half is Emma Young. We have two boys, Finn (2020) & Kip (2023). We live in Lubbock, TX. We are building, planning, and investing towards our goals. This is the work I love to do. And when it’s done well the result is confidence, simplicity, and meaning for your money.

I began my career in the wealth management industry by spending six years in retirement plan administration, then followed that up with 14 years in fiduciary wealth management practices before joining Harding Wealth in 2020.

Through this experience it became clear how important it is for firms to have streamlined paperwork, organized processes, and a dedicated person for clients to contact when they need something.

Whether it’s providing a quick response for clients needing administrative help with their accounts, or being available to walk someone through their personal Harding Wealth client portal, I love helping clients get organized with their money.

My role with the firm is to help make sure cumbersome administrative processes [like account opening, transfers, online login help, or cash needs] are handled as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Clients have my direct line and are able to speak with the same person every time; we, as a firm, think that’s important.

When I’m not working with clients I love to hike, travel, eat, and read…. all at the same time, if possible.
